Tortugas Ecological Reserve needs your help before April 23 vote

Tortugas Ecological Reserve to go to April 23rd Florida Cabinet vote, following March 29th unanimous approval by Florida's Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission. Florida Cabinet approval is the final step needed for 40 square miles of state waters and bottoms to be included in the proposed 192-square-mile multi-jurisdictional no-take reserve located in the Gulf of Mexico, approximately 60 miles west of Key West. Approval has already been won for inclusion of 115 square miles of federal waters and bottoms under jurisdiction of the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council and Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary.

Ban Wire-Mesh Fish Traps in the U.S. Caribbean

The coral reefs of the U.S. Caribbean are one of the wonders of the world, with breathtaking corals, sponges, fish, lobsters, and other marine life. But what took nature thousands of years to construct is quickly being destroyed by harmful fishing practices. Wire mesh fish traps and entangling nets are killing thousands of tropical fish every year. The dropping and dragging of traps is literally destroying the coral reef structure. That is why the coral reefs of Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands need your help.

Ban Wire-Mesh Fish Traps in the Gulf of Mexico

What would you think if you woke up to huge trenches being dug in your backyard and everyday it got worse? Soon the remaining grass and trees would die because of the destruction of the system. This is what happens daily on the hard bottom of the Gulf of Mexico when fish trappers drag enormous grappling hooks in an attempt to locate their boxes of death. Now we have the chance to stop this!

Save South Florida Coral Reefs from Burial! Over 100 Acres To Be Destroyed!

Four beach renourishment projects have been proposed that will literally bury over 100 acres of coral reefs, including burying Breakers Reef! These projects, if approved, would have devastating impacts on the South Florida diving community as beach-accessible nearshore reefs as well as offshore reefs are lost. That is why we are asking for your help.

Ensure Broad Protection for Coral Reefs as Mandated by President Clinton

An amazing opportunity is upon us to influence Federal government policy and place coral reefs in the spotlight. At the direction of the President of the United States, a multi-agency Task Force is developing an action plan to prevent the degradation of and restore coral reefs.

Management Plans Needed to Protect Coral Reefs at Desecheo & Mona Marine Reserves!

YOUR help is needed to protect the coral reefs surrounding Desecheo and Mona Islands by getting the Puerto Rico Department of Natural and Environmental Resources to approve management plans for the recently-created marine reserves around Desecheo and Mona Islands.
